10 e-Learning Tools for Successful Remote Education

With schools closed due to COVID-19, eLearning/remote learning has become a new way for students to learn since they are now unable to physically go to their classrooms. Lucky for us, the web has countless practice guides and curated tools to help students continue their studies online. Many schools have also implemented their own custom programs to help students learn during these difficult times.

Though nothing will replace face-to-face instruction and teachers working with their students in person, the learning experience must continue regardless of the situation. The goal is to keep students engaged and active so that they do not lose what they have learned already this year and so they are ready to hit the ground running when regular school is able to resume. Here are 10 eLearning resources that teachers and students can use for successful online learning:

  • Quizlet: is a mobile and web-based study application that allows students to study information via learning tools and games.
  • NASA Kid’s Club: sends kids on virtual missions to the planets and teaches them about each of them.
  • Scholastic Learn at Home: Daily educational projects for students in grades PreK-9.
  • Virtual Tours for Field Trips: 30 virtual tours of museums for students of all ages to learn about natural and cultural history, 8 zoos and aquariums, and 3 theme parks.
  • Kahoot!: a game-based learning platform that brings engagement and fun to students in their academics.
  • Code.org: online coding education for students at every grade level.
  • Open Library: online library resource where students can read, borrow, and even have the opportunity to sponsor books by buying them online so that they are accessible for others to read.
  • Khan Academy: free online academy where teachers can tailor their curriculum to their students and students can learn at their own pace.
  • Loom Pro: the video messaging service is now offered for free to students and teachers at K-12 schools, universities, and other educational institutions with no time limit or expiration.
  • Science NetLinks: provides K-12 teachers, students, and families with free resources for teaching and learning science.

While times are challenging and our learning environments are not the same as they once were, it’s important to stay on task when doing schoolwork at home, but also remember to have fun in the process and always take breaks!
