How to Remain Productive While Working Remotely

Due to the spread of COVID-19 and the health concerns of the Nation, many businesses have their employees working remotely, and for some, this is a new adjustment. Working from home is a benefit that has become increasingly popular with employers throughout the years, but in the current climate, many companies have mandated or recommended all of their employees work remotely.

Working remotely can be challenging with the distraction of children, TV, and those household chores you need to get done. Patrick Lucas Austin, who wrote an article for Time Magazine, made the argument that setting up a designated location is the first step to becoming productive while working remotely. It is important to have a quiet space within your home where you can go and work. That way, your brain can easily associate the space with working, therefore making it a more productive atmosphere. Sara Marie Hall with Success.com stated, “The key to work-from-home success is to create an environment that allows you to focus on the tasks at hand.” Some of her tips include making sure the lights are on or that there is plenty of natural lighting, getting dressed for the day, getting outside, and setting a schedule.

Getting ready for the day and keeping yourself in a good routine allows you to feel motivated and become more productive throughout your day. It is easy to get distracted or be in a funk when working remotely, especially during a time of isolation, so taking breaks is a must. It is important for both your physical health and mental wellbeing to get outside and exercise, or to step away from your work and get some fresh air throughout the day.

In short, you will be more productive while working remotely by having a quiet location to escape to, turning on the lights or opening the curtains to let natural light in, getting dressed and ready for your day, setting a work schedule, going outside, and taking short breaks.
