Magnus Spotlight – Leadership Team

Not only does Magnus have valuable team members across all departments, but our Directors keep Magnus growing and improving each week. This month, we’ve chatted with the Dynamic Duo – our Directors of the Sales and Marketing teams, Inese Hoover and Dino Skerlos.

Inese, our Marketing Director, keeps the team busy, but organized. While spreading the word about Magnus through multiple campaign channels, and bringing in leads from new schools, she keeps the team on their toes with fresh ideas for generating new business.

Dino, our Director of Sales, works with the Account Executives to show prospective clients the value of implementing the Magnus solution at their schools. Dino has already helped Magnus grow significantly in the short time he has been with the team.

First, tell us how long you’ve been working at Magnus.
I joined Magnus Health in August 2016, so I have been a part of our company for about a year and a half.

What is your role at Magnus? Were you in a different role previously?
As the Director of Marketing, I lead a great team of marketing professionals that are passionate about our company and the difference our solution makes in student lives. I have worked in a variety of industries, more recently managing digital communications for Altra Industrial Motion, Cree, and Patheon. However, I started my marketing career with a couple of software companies and I am glad to be back!

What is your favorite aspect of your job?
As the marketing department, it is our job to spread the word about Magnus Health. There are schools that don’t even realize that they are putting students at risk by not having their health records readily available… So it’s fun to be able to reach nurses and athletic trainers with our messages and to see them appreciate what we do. I truly enjoy hearing the feedback from our client schools on how Magnus has made a great, positive impact. I also enjoy the opportunity to mentor my marketing team members. I learn from them while they are learning from me… and together we grow!

What do you enjoy most about working at Magnus?
It is fun to work surrounded by people who are passionate about what they do! It is like building a puzzle – we all have a part in making the company successful. It is also very rewarding to promote a product that you are passionate about and fully believe in! I love to tell people that our software makes schools a safer place for students. As a parent, I see the huge benefits that Magnus offers to school staff, parents, and ultimately our kids.

What three words describe you?
The 3 words that describe me best are: reliable, passionate, and organized.

Which day of the work week are you most productive?
In my role, most of my days are filled with meetings so I look forward to those days when I can focus on work. I am the most productive on Wednesdays and Fridays… the lightest meeting days of the week! However, I generally have a list of items that I set out to complete each day. There is no time to be ‘not productive’!

Before Magnus, what was the most unusual/interesting job you’ve ever had?
Hmm, I can’t say that I have held any unusual jobs, however, my college jobs were definitely fun! I was a Resident Assistant at Millikin University for 3 years, and believe me – the things I saw and heard were quite interesting… But, it was certainly a great opportunity to meet many awesome people who I remain friends with to this day. I also worked for the University Catering, serving at numerous receptions for the President of the University and his guests.

Favorite activities on your days off?
Moms don’t get days off… ha ha! And, I am a travel hockey Mom, so my every weekend is spent at the rink or on the road! But, in all honesty, my two favorite things to do are to travel and to watch hockey. My son has played travel hockey since he was 6 years old, which has allowed me to travel around the country (and Canada, eh?) and to watch my favorite little athlete play hockey! It is a great way to spend weekends as a family and to have countless adventures with your extended hockey family. If, by rare chance, our son doesn’t have a game, I love to watch our hockey billet play Junior hockey! And, my favorite team is the Chicago Blackhawks… so more hockey.

What other hobbies do you have?
Outside of the hockey season, I like the outdoors. Walking, hiking, the beach, working in the yard… I also like to do crafts.

What is the best vacation you’ve ever been on?
Rome and Venice in Italy. Absolutely stunning and breathtaking sights! And, delicious food.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I came to the US when I was 16 years old… 2 suitcases and a timid heart. But, determined to succeed! Thanks to many caring, wonderful people along the way and hard work, I earned a college degree, entered the workforce, established a family, and gained valuable marketing experience. All I can say: where there is a will – there is a way! So far, my greatest achievement has been to build a life far from home and with my own efforts. The next one (still in the works) is to raise my son to be a confident, kind young man.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I do not have any hidden talents, but at one point in life I could speak in 4 languages… Latvian, Russian, English, and Spanish. Right now a couple of them are rusty.

First, tell us how long you’ve been working at Magnus:
I have been with Magnus nearly six months.

What is your role at Magnus?
I am the Director of Sales for Magnus.

What is your favorite thing about your job and about working at Magnus?
My favorite thing about my job is being a part of a driven and dynamic team. Everyone is pulling in the same direction, while enjoying what they are doing and who they are doing it with.

What three words describe you?
I would say that I am adaptive, analytical, and modest.

Which day of the work week are you most productive?
I am the most productive on Fridays because I’m typically scrambling to finish what needs to get done before the weekend.

Before Magnus, what was the most unusual/interesting job you’ve ever had?
While in high school, I worked for a drug manufacturer and was responsible for cleaning out the large vats where the drugs were mixed in. These vats were big enough to fit two good sized cars with walls standing over 12 feet. I’d need to get in a hazmat suit and spray everything down with a power hose pumping out near freezing water.

Favorite activities on your days off?
When I am not hanging out with the family, I really enjoy golf, either on the course or just chipping in the yard.

What other hobbies do you have?
Following Chicago sports teams!

What is the best vacation you’ve ever been on?
The best vacation I have ever been on was my honeymoon in Hawaii.

If you had to eat only one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Golden Delicious apples!
