The Benefits of Schools Utilizing eLearning

Understanding the concept of eLearning is simple. eLearning is learning by using electronic technologies to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom. In most cases, it refers to a course, program or degree delivered completely online. The common misconception regarding eLearning is that it loses the interactive feel of in-the-classroom learning. Many believe that the students and teachers can’t interact just because they are not together in the same room. However, this is simply not true.

eLearning is interactive because students can and do communicate with their teachers, professors, or other students in their class. Sometimes the interaction happens Live, where the students can “electronically” raise their hand and communicate in real-time, and sometimes it is a lecture that has been pre-recorded. There is always a teacher or professor interacting / communicating with their audience and grading participation, assignments, and tests. eLearning has been proven to be a successful method of learning and, with the coronavirus outbreak, has become a way of life for many students and faculty alike.

So what are some of the benefits of eLearning?

Attention Spans Are Improved
The Research Institute of America reports that learning retention rates improve from 8 to 10 percent for face-to-face training, to an astounding 25 to 60 percent for eLearning. Because students can learn at their own pace and not be bogged down with information that they may have already grasped and can quickly move on.

Materials Can Be Revisited
Unlike classroom teaching, with online learning students can access the content an unlimited number of times. This is especially required when reviewing in preparation for an exam. In the traditional form of learning, if a student can not attend the lecture, then they have to prepare for that topic on their own; with eLearning, they can attend the lectures whenever they want with ease.

Cost to Schools is Reduced
eLearning is cost-effective as compared to traditional forms of learning.  The reason for this price reduction is because learning through this mode happens quickly and easily. An online training system minimizes various costs that are typically associated with in-person learning. This includes meal costs for students, classroom maintenance, printed learning materials, and salaries for instructors and other support staff. eLearning allows teachers to update essential lesson plans and text documents easily and quickly, and because they remain online, schools can save big on printing costs.

Enrollment is Increased
This cost-effectiveness also helps in enhancing the profitability and appeal of an organization. When parents see that a school offers a wide variety of learning methods, including eLearning, they are much more likely to enroll their students. In today’s modern world, children need all of the opportunities they can get to advance their education in the most efficient ways possible, so schools benefit from providing these opportunities to students.

Today, the use of the web to teach and to learn is inevitable for both teachers and students. Online courses have become necessary to continue education for this school year. Schools are embracing this new reality and have rallied to prepare technically and to create online lesson plans.
